Thread: Help with external booting

i have been working on getting external install boot on macbook 4,1. have followed tutorial shown here.

far have been able install ubuntu partition on harddrive , appears proper configuration of grub boot partition. problem occurs after execute menu entry in grub , proceeds boot process. after screen of text scrolls down, process hangs , couple errors.

error referring checking battery status. however, last time attempted boot received errors similar this:

usb_id [831]: unable access '/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3/3-1/3-1:1.1/input/input6/event6'

and

[216.049852: i/o error, dev sdb, sector 1569427
...buffer i/o error on device sdb4, logical block 174089
"echo 0> /proc/sys/kernel/hung_task_timeout-secs" disables message.

these errors display slight variation, i'm dealing with. not sure start problem since relatively new @ , not understand causing this.

the thing can not macs can boot usb don't have firmware so. not sure macbook 4,1. have find out googling or so.
