Thread: Installing drivers for nvidia fx5200 - install fails
after long story of tries , fails, here again, cap in hand, looking help!
had problems thei pc running onboard via card, decided install nvidia card out of pc. card nvidia geforce fx5200 128mb of video ram, , in agp socket. tried booting it, got hardware drivers warning drivers available, went , had look. want enable desktop effects, , card should handle it, click "enable" , wait. after 30 minutes or gave , started having sorts of problems partially installled drivers!
blew them away , started again, found hardware drivers missing menu (ok, overdid blow away), , got in again following tips mikewhatever got me square one.
tried online manual again , installing drivers hardware driver hangs @ 25%. did more digging , found quoted post full set of root terminal instructions:
back square 1 again! 3 little guys holding hands (ubuntu logo) , screen goes black , monitor goes sleep, no video input.code:*** download nvidia drivers /home (done) *** in root terminal: sudo telinit 3 sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop sudo sh nvidia-linux-x86-173.14.22-pkg1.run *** followed prompts through setup , .... xserver
reboot, drop root terminal, delete xorg.conf , reboot again, comes 1024x768, nvidia drivers disabled, @ least system useable!
suggestions welcomed!
go synaptic package manager , install envyng-gtk. install envyng-core. try hardware drivers again.
