Thread: Six fatal mistakes you'll want to avoid
i've published web page 6 fatal mistakes, beginner ubuntu should avoid. maybe bit controversial of you, it's written viewpoint of careful , cautious system administrator , aimed @ inexperienced.
here is:
http://sites.google.com/site/easylin.../fatalmistakes
remember: it's written caution in mind, aimed @ beginners linux, , of course doesn't apply intrepid adventurers , experienced old hands among you....
i agree users should warned possible implications of using third-party repositories, scripts, backports , deb files or removing applications installed default, saying fatal mistakes little bit sensationalist.
real problem people run commands , follow tutorials without knowing do. have helped several users didn't know had ppa repository enabled.
particularly don't title of article , inclusion of ubuntuzilla on list.
unbuntuzilla not script anymore. repository , doesn't replace firefox or installed default, installs package version released mozilla , divert launcher command use new version. can added/removed without causing problem system.
firefox not "such important part of entire operating system". can remove (although don't recommend), if clean installs of ubuntu or make sure re-install ubuntu-desktop metapackage before upgrade. applications might depend on xulrunner, package manager warn if case.besides, firefox (and mozilla engine) such important part of entire operating system, can't replace version.
