CS3 Motionguide question

i had create writing signature effect did using eraser , frame frame animation. need take pen symbol , have trace text lines make pen writing. found tutorial here that

for reason says use pen tool , cannot motion guide trace pen. difference in fl8  , cs3 pen tools?

ok see pen tool can used need pencil needs used. need recreate 3 words being written , inbetween each word symbol (an old feather pen) has dip in inkwell have on stage. pencil line starts, dips inkwell, writes word one, dips inkwell, writes word two, dips inwell, writes word 3 ends in same spot started. got easy paths work doing path above hard first of locking symbol path hard.

 

why can't lock line symbol have locks working?

sometimes locks , not.

 

once think have locked copy , paste in place symbol , nudge think locked , never works

 

any ?
