Thread: Linux Won't recognize Realtek WLan
last year installed cut-down version of ubuntu recovery disk, not recognize external hdd backup program had saved it's output, ditched it.
last month installed ubuntu 9.1, according articles in computer shopper, , worked treat recognizing ral wireless card , connecting imediately without having more edit connection settings. able use ubuntu updates ok. on medion md8822 windows vista.
have bought medion md8341 windows7, intel i3-530,3gb of ddr3 ram nvidia g210, , realtek rtl8186 wlan adapter. had trouble getting windows make , keep internet connection, installing latest drivers - automatic process - got running reasonably if not trouble-free.
unfortunately, ubuntu 9.1, installed same dvd, on external hdd - ubuntu9.1 recognized ok - not, , not recognize wireless connection @ all.
i assume problem has nothing change windows vista win7, except 2 computers have different wlan adapters; different drivers needed , ubuntu not know how use them.
there linux driver listed on realtek website, quite horrified @ accounts i've read in few threads i've found here, of appalling complexity of long commands needed download , install one.
trying download updated version of firefox bad enough - gave @ fifth attempt after got error messages there no key,k unable connect server.ubuntu.com or somesuch - hoping knows simpler means of getting wireless connection work - anyone got ideas?.
in meantime i've got ethernet connection going power plug adapter giving me access via house mains circuit. ubuntu recognizes without adding driver realtek pcie family adapter.
[ know not proper place, have found hot-keys cut , paste don't work in compose window - menu items - , though ctrl-shift-x cut out highlighted text, puts whole text right-aligned , icons not correct - current paragraph. ]
hope not need update nvidia drivers linux - far, good.
re:additional info bogan.
having read 'stickies' @ top of section - should have done beforehand - can report after running listed check command in terminal, none gave response @ all, except 'iwlist scan'.
listed auto eth0 , lo note: 'no wireless connectivity' alongside each - no mention of wlan device, nor wl3.
rather suggests me problem not specific new rtlwlan driver needed; not know it.
ndiswrapper site not seem accessible linux novice.
