Need help importing and organizing

i had hd crash , have reimport lr catalog.  have photos had import using other software on computer inbetween when did not have computer running.  since have been using lightroom have done pretty job of keeping things consistant not as like.  have portfolio pre-lightroom days named on import.  bring lightroom consistant format current practices.

 

in past used date based system , included numerical id camera.  @ point changed formating of date.

 

since starting clean install, looking import lightroom , consistant naming , organization system.

 

• should import of previous lr catalogs? 
• or should import photos scratch consistant date based naming system? 
• is first option way keep lr information had created (key words, processing, etc)?
• once imported there way rename folders, , contents consitancy of folders not match current naming convention?

 

 

i appreciate suggestions organize , import work.

if have image files metadata exported files, (or sidecars in case of raw files), lr catalogs not way retrieve info.

 

i suspect, though, you'll best results importing old lr catalogs, "don't import duplicates" in force. i'd run import move files new place, can clean old repositories of images in new catalog.

 

date based seems lot less important can filter on date, organize date, without having single jot of date info in file or folder.

 

yes, once imported can change name of folder whatever like; control click name of folder.
