Need Branching Advice

i have captivate demo needs split @ point user's input determine of 2 paths demo take.  created 2 buttons on slide demo fork, 1 each possible user option.

 

if user clicks first button, demo continues next slide, first of path a.  when demo gets last slide of path jumps last slide of demo, end slate.

 

if user clicks second button, demo skips 30 slides (path a) , jumps first slide of path b.  last slide of path b mentioned end slate, path continues through end.  thus, order of slides this:

 

open slate -> user input (a or b) -> path -> path b -> end slate

 

the problem when demo runs, if choose path b, slides path still in timeline though skipped them.  can see marker in timeline jump ahead, skipping earlier content.  @ point, if user clicks backward review previous slides, or way slides path a, confusing.  there way engineer once user chooses path, other eliminated timeline?

 

i considered making 3 demos, 1 each path , 1 open slate/user input slide.  figured have each of user input buttons link flash file starts demo chosen path.  trouble opens flash file in new browser window, transition isn't seamless.  i'd happen in same window, if single presentation.

 

i suspect confusing explanation, if can see i'm trying accomplish , offer advice on how i'd appreciate it!

for second scenario: possible open file in current window (open small triangle right of box type path+filename).

 

the other question branching: cp-version using? if cp4, think achieved using variables , actions. explaining relevant cp4.
