Creating new site - sudden problem with root

i tried create new site today in usual manner, i've done tons of times. i'm getting weird problem when try select local root folder.

 

i choose folder icon , navigate want create new site folder, create folder , select it. instead of filling in path folder, dw automatically selects main root folder of other dw sites. refuses recongnize whatever folder select local root folder , defaults main root of sites, wants import new site. when try manually type in name of folder, rather navigating it, still goes main root.

 

have inadvertantly changed setting in dw? corrupted? should reinstall dw? (a painful option...).

trying corrupted file cache solution , if doesn't work, try recreating configuration folder
