Thread: 9.10 Lightweight GUI install

i'm looking install 'lighter weight' gui on ubuntu 9.10 server, it's now, @ prompt.

don't want go ultra-stipped down, perhaps bit less.. thinking 'xubuntu' - suggestions on that's supported well?

if want xbuntu work ok in 9.10? >>
code:
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop
i want minimal nautilus or similar, , access desktop apps clock, editor, etc - nothing fancy.

system doing web content filtering, tried fluxbox, happened , goofed routing, since it's not critical or , running 9.04 - thought i'd fresh install. fluxbox.. seemed cool, might bit more manual config hoping for.

gnome work ok too, if it's real light. found >>
code:
sudo aptitude install --no-install-recommends ubuntu-desktop
- not sure how light or if 9.10 ok it.

want keep machine server more , not have load gui default.

if xfce, can try installing xfce4 package. not install xubuntu desktop functionality.
click install
