Should Illustrator be this slow!?

i've been using photoshop years, , trying out illustrator cs4 think it'll lot more suitable design projects. i'm having trouble - test out i'm designing banner 2 meters high, 1 meter wide. illustrator doesn't seem @ - every time make simple change grinds halt , decides re-render effects.

 

am doing wrong?! pointers how can performing @ reasonable/usable speed?

 

if it's i'm running on windows xp sp3, athlon 64 dual core x2 5600+, , 2gb ram.

the document raster effects set @ 300 ppi default think in past set @ 72 ppi. try changing 72 ppi , can change @ time of out put 150 ppi never need go 300ppi in case.

 

also there limit size o art can rasterized.

 

but  check raster effects settings. 2gb of ram these days dismally low btw.
