Where to insert a DigitalWrite pin low command.

i need remove holding power stepper motor after command move focuser , driver getting pretty hot on course of night. code used control telescope focuser.

the control pins 3 pwma
11 pwmb
12 dira
13 dir b

it's l298 motor shield.

i have tried inserting command inside loop although stops holding current messes stepper.

i did not write code, open source astronomy community. appreciated.

did expect else? "it messes stepper" doesn't tell anything. code something. expect something. tell things are. tell pin setting low. obviously, setting either direction pin low not affect current stepper draws. setting step pin low triggers step.

so, isn't clear turning off.

my best advice real stepper driver. l298 shield meant drive variable speed electric motors, not stepper motors.
