Thread: boots from external but no longer from internal

i have ubuntu 9.10 running dual boot vista on internal hard drive. added external hard drive on installed 9.10 also. set boot order 1) cd, 2) removable drive, 3) internal drive. worked fine , booted new external drive.

however, when shut down , disconnected external drive, got message @ next startup:
grub loading.
error: no such disk
grub rescue>

need system boot internal hard drive when external not connected?

thanks!
