FTP Layer problems with shared hosting - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

hi guys

i newbie although have done many joomla 1.0 installs very few problems.

for worth along many others have problem installing ftp layer both @ installation stage , via global configuration.

this hosting serving service have said me:

"we have been forced block ftp access our cluster nodes our ftp servers. not affect normal ftp connections page upload.
only scripts connect 1 of our ftp servers on port 21 blocked connections remote ftp servers not affected.

we ask use port 2121 secure. please note: not affect normal ftp uploads"

so , not work. not work @ installation stage , "half works" @ global configuration stage. can seem save ftp settings ok @ global configuration stage attempts trying install extension met error

"unable move..."

surely guys @ joomla realise many many of use shared hosting , have seen experiencing problems ftp layer side of things. never experienced joomla 1.0 if progress has got me beat.

my hosting service provide auto installer joomla 1.0 although manually using ftp.  have said possibility of adding joomla 1.5 autoinstaller.

i see there alternative methods of uploading extensions , templates directory , url. can 1 point me in direction of newbies guide on how this? have downloaded extensions , templates in zip file form.  now?..........................................

unable move permissions error.  change entire root directory 777, test theory.  if works, don't forget change files need security.
