Thread: Help! I'm a newbie in need! Problem with GRUB

i installed ubuntu year or ago...and love it. i've got twin hdds, 1 windows xp home , 1 jaunty. i'm still figuring out linux business, bear me if sound don't know i'm talking about. cause don't know. well, anyway, here's problem. every once in while when install updates 9.04 (i'm still trying decide if want make change 9.10. also, don't know how upgrade affect windows partition) bootloader display appears multiple linux partitions, , 1 windows. if that's not clear, let me explain way: when first installed ubuntu, bootloader listed 1 linux partition, , 1 windows partition. now, after several updates , errors, displays 5 linux partitions. when select 1 of them, loads same settings, files, , whatnot has. can't figure out why there 5 of same menu option...there used 1 (not including recovery mode, etc.) know how might fix this? in advance!

first off, no updates ubuntu have effect on windows partition. can quit worrying one.

multiple ubuntu entries seeing new versions of kernel. not new partitions, or different installations. when new kernel update installed, old ones left in place. in case new kernel has problems hardware, can boot old kernel. aren't hurting being there. if bother you, can remove old versions through synaptic. idea leave @ least 2 of latest. , sure know ones want remove.
