Thread: How can I get a Verizon UMW190 to work in 9.10?
i tried using vzaccess manager in wine. didn't work. click on "enable mobile broadband" button after clicking on networks notification. i'm not sure how fill out wizard hoping help.
here screenshots how far got.
thanks!
i have same mobile broadband modem , use regularly without problems.
verizon umw190 called "global ready" 3g modem, meaning connects both cdma , gsm networks. alas, ubuntu 9.10's network manager identifies modem gsm only, until gets fixed, connecting on cdma network (such verizon's network in us) requires use additional application.
install "gnome-ppp" -- application use connect -- can find under applications -> ubuntu software center, or under system -> administration -> synaptic package manager. (once have installed it, may want restart computer undo else may have done while trying solve problem.)
use modem, following:
step 1. plug modem in.
step 2. launch gnome-ppp administrator (e.g., press alt-f2 , type "gksu gnome-ppp"), , configure following settings:
- modem tab
- device: /dev/ttyacm0 (in case, auto-detect button correctly identified device)
- type: usb modem (do not leave analog modem!)
- speed: 460800
- phone line: tone
- volume: off
- options tab
- minimize: checked
- dock in notification area: checked
click close. fill in fields in main gnome ppp window:
- username: 1234567890@vzw3g.com (any 10-digit number works me)
- password: vzw
- phone number: #777
step 3. click connect. should it.
disconnect, click on gnome-ppp dock notification icon.
these settings saved next time need connect.
