A few integration questions - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

a little background... have non-joomla site existing membership base.  system not use joomla's approach password encryption don't think can populate joomla tables existing (supplemented) user data.  so, think want continue use existing username & passwords non-joomla db (same server) creating new authentication plugin.

1)  if have own authentication plugin (activated) uses separate database username , password, onloginuser triggered in event authentication succeeds (assuming plugin right)?

2)  assuming have working authentication plugin, there need password populated in joomla user table?

3)  again, assuming magical authentication plugin works, if user goes joomla! page, , has logged in such authentication should pass, standard joomla user plugin executed or need include functionality in alternate login scheme?

4)  i'm still in dark on how handle new user registration & user managment... guidance wold appreciated.

5)  sane thing considering?
