Thread: How do I save a customized bash promt???

so have been messing lately, , cant figure out how save it.

gives me want:

 export ps1='\u@desktop-\@:\w '

i tried saving here:

code:

 /etc/profile

and here:

code:

 /etc/bash.bashrc

the files save fine, not change bash promt. doing wrong??
