Thread: Can I use AMD memory on Intel Atom processor?

i purchased toshiba nb305-nb410bl, came 1 gib of ram...i have hp pavilion 4 gib of ram...can swap 1 of 2 gib modules out of hp , replace 1gib module in toshiba? hp uses amd processor , toshiba netbook uses intel atom processor.

specs on hp ram:
667mhz 2rx8 pc2-5300 2gib

specs on toshiba:
800mhz 2rx16 pc2-6400 1gib

you could, since both so-dimms , both ddr2, there considerations need aware of:

first, you're replacing 800 mhz ram 667 mhz ram. although theoretically work fine, in reality, slower clock speed negate performance advantage of higher amount of ram. can reduce hard drive seek times relying less on swap space, cpu's access ram slow down.

second, verify toshiba's mainboard supports additional ram.

third, if there 2 so-dimms in toshiba, , you're replacing one, mismatched clock speeds cause problems.

fourth, check speed of atom cpu. not it's internal speed, other mhz value. make sure supports 667 mhz ram.

basically, fsb speed (frequency of communication between cpu , ram) fast slowest component. therefore, 667 mhz ram , cpu with, 1000 mhz fsb clock rate have fsb speed of 667 mhz, , vice versa. keep in mind.

personally, check ebay or amazon (both friend in computer building) , find 800 mhz 2 gb ddr2 so-dimm. that's me.
