Thread: Problems with video graphics 9.10

hello all,

have problem 9.10 distribution. worked out until wanted improve video performance. have ati radeon x700 video card. know there problems card. unninstalled graphics drivers , tried install begining. after uninstalling them, work in text mode. there tried install agai graphics drivers using
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg
problem when prompts me login in graphical mode, enter password, looks going login, screen flickers , shows again login window. , keeps doing that. tried change password, still not working. if can me , tell me how can reinstall video drivers , how pass login problem (which i'm sure it's not related password)

i don't recall ati card had in older computer gave away, either bounced login in xubuntu 9.10 after first updates, or right after installation half loaded , froze gnome in ubuntu 9.10.

installing xorg-driver-fglrx seemed resolve that. synaptic provides little details other than:

video driver ati radeon , firegl graphics accelerators.

package provides 2d display drivers
, hardware accelerated opengl.
any other computers have run ubuntu on ati or nvidia have worked fine standard kernel , x modules.
