Thread: Setting up a home NAS server

i installed whs play around before doing fresh install of ubuntu server. reasons why went ubuntu server opposed whs are:
-from i've read, drive extender (though cool feature) quite slow in whs.
-i've read many threads people losing of shares when 1 of drives dies (even shares shouldn't impacted)
-i'm more familiar ubuntu.

though 1 of best things whs has going great admin console. there's fantastic disk management add-in i'd love see replicated in webmin, ebox, or other remote admin software. exist?

see link example screenshot of i'm talking about: http://www.tentaclesoftware.com/whsd...4_main_tab.png.

in screenshot, can / see how each drive doing:
- disk size
- disk utilization
- smart status
- drive temp
- current transfer activity

know webmin offers module close called "smart drive status", unfortunately temps buried in full stats (and stuck on celsius-only afaict) , doesn't include disk utilization or current drive activity. i've played around in ebox briefly, looks webmin closer.

there other remote-admin type tools can give me disk snapshot (something think pretty important in home nas server)?

personally phpsysinfo in combination hddtemp , lm-sensors

gives nice view of server stats
