Short range but precise tracking

hello all,

i have searched such topic, haven't quite found right one. maybe 1 tip me in right direction- info welcome.

i have robot vacuum. not have clear circle patter, more random. @ first, want track little robot has been inside house.
secondly, gets stuck. see, (or few seconds delay).

i started arduino, i'm bit more familiar , don't want sink lot of cash it.
i thought kind of smaller device, sits on top of robot.

on tracking, saw recommendations on using 3 phones triangulate location of cat. don't want use phones, want make kind of beacons if case.
also there suggested qr codes on walls scan- see bit robust , bad solution.

in long run, use multiple items, not robot vacuum- start of desire.

has gotten experience in this? triangulation best option , how should approached?

thank all!

tl;dr- want track location of inside apartment

what want not simple. outdoors , on longer distances use gps.

if want track position of within single room maybe ceiling mounted camera , image recognition software work - far beyoned capability of arduino.

another approach, arduino manage, have 3 light beacons , have direction-sensitive scanner on robot can identify angle each beacon , work out position - way ships used use navigation lights , lighthouses.

if want able track through multiple rooms can't think how done other similar setup in each room.

all in sounds more trouble worth.
