Thread: Remove an internal hard drive

in brief, i'd remove (and not replace!) internal hard drive.

although sounds painfully easy, have had no luck in doing so, or finding answer in many hours of googling , reading (and tinkering).

looking set of commands and/or files modify remove internal drive.

using fresh install of 9.10 server - i386/32 bit. (i using default grub2.)

fyi, drive mounted /dev/sdf1. formatted xfs; uses lvm(2).

promising things i've tried:
* modified /etc/fstab, commenting out drive
* umount /dev/sdf1

then:
1) turn off machine, unplug drive.
2) restart machine; invariably boot hangs (immediately after hardware initializations) @ "grub loading".

other efforts:
* booted live cd, tinkered system options (went console; tried chrooting in , performing update-grub drive removed etc.)

feedback appreciated!

in advance,
-sonic
