Best way to simplify/reduce illustrator file

im making portfolio in indesign filled quite lot of illustrator files (vector) hope email around.

its 70page pdf reduce 18mb after using 'reduce file size' in acrobat. im trying down smaller around 10 - 15mb.

i found out 1 illustrator file takes (7mb) of file (found out deleting pages , seeing file size).

this ai file quite complex quite lot of nodes. i've tried path simplifying complex shapes within file , flatten transparency other objects reducing 35mb 7mb.

however, pdf indesign still ends same size. 1 ai file causing problem , page takes longest load.

any advice on simplifying ai file?

is there function ps 'flatten image'? (it seems there still layers in file, when loading in adobe reader, different layers appear first).

ideally, leave vector file can zoom in in reader. if not, whats best method of saving image , placing in indesign.

did try?:

open problematic ai file in illustrator.

save pdf, using smallest file size preset.

in acrobat use document>insert pages insert page collection pdf want it.
