Thread: Security by obscurity and SSH

assuming ssh server configured secure possible, worth use obscure port ssh?

ask because i've noticed on home machine, have hundreds of hits trying guess username ssh running on port 22. @ work, our ssh runs on obscure high port (actually it's numbers use phone keypad-dial our acronym can remember easily) , have yet see malicious hits on it.

since server configured secure possible anyway, worth hassle of specifying port numbers every time want connect or file transfers?

my .02

using different port not make more secure, eliminate bot/script kiddie noise potentially exposing legit attempt crack server. if trying crack server on default port obscured bunch of other noise. whereas other noise eliminated, easy spot going on.
