Looking for a "mini-locker" (secret box)

hi,

i want build "secret box" : box locked , must unlocked using secret code.

i have no problem electronic , programming parts.

but i'm looking best solution arduino controlled "mini lock".

the goal :
 - have box locked everytime, on power off
 - power on box, type code
 - if ok, unlock box
 - autoshut-down

so lock should powered using battery source (a 9v or 4 aaa batteries).

i'm thinking using mini solenoid (push-pull lock) or mini stepper motor (to turn little metal part lock box)

i want have locker small possible.

the solenoid seems power greedy, mechanical work have micro-stepper based lock seems difficult (for small locker)

so i'm thinking magnet solution : using permanent magnet lock box.
the permanent magnet should "stuck" small electromagnet when electromagnet off.
and permanent magnet should "pushed" small electromagnet when it's on (playing magnet polarities)


do have idea or advice ?

that's not specification. people, gym locker might idea of "small". think "small"? going fit inside it, other arduino?

car door lock actuators make great actuators this. need reasonable amount of 12v power (like 12v worth of aa batteries) indestructible , consume no power when "locked". if wanted smaller, can cut them open , extract gears work without large case.
