Troubleshooting Indesign in CS4

although i've worked in pc support few years, i'm new supporting adobe's cs packages. 1 of users having quite few problems cs4. i've uninstalled/re-installed cs4 (while doing that, ran registry cleaner + ccleaner + mbam + tempclean utility + defragged registy + defragged hard drive before re-installation).

 

although i'm looking troubleshooting techniques/ideas regardless of hardware. in case, has dell dim 9200 dual core 3 gb ram, windows xp (w/sp3), office 2007 pro, ie7, latest security patches). has administrator rights.

 

she's still having same problems. sake of being methodical issues, i'm having write list of problems she's having. here of thoughts on troubleshooting . . . hopefully, readers of post can correct mis-understandings and/or add tips cause.

 

-     pointed out above, re-installed cs4, not until after-the-fact, did not know preference not uninstalled when uninstalling cs4. end, i'm going uninstall cs4 (again!) first, back-up following directories:

          + c:\documents , settings\theuser\application data\adobe

          + c:\documents , settings\theuser\local settings\application data\adobe

     remove above directories + c:\program files\adobe (if it's still there), defrag, etc , re-install.

 

-     i've read indesign's "rebuild preferences" not complete job (for example, read, "pluginconfig.txt - sucks indesign's rebuild-preferences command did not touch file" . . . although i've not used tool. believe above steps same as, if not more thorough, resetting preferences.

 

-     recommendations on swap file size in regard cs4? other windows resources cs4?

 

-     vista better xp cs4? or vice-versa?

 

-     there updates aren't downloaded when cs4 checks updates, should downloaded?

 

-     there registry keys check/delete/add helpful?

 

-     video card/driver must important; in user's case, is: nvidia geforce 7900 gs/driver nvidia, dtd 9/17/2007, ver: 6.14.11.6371. there recommendations on this?

 

-     category of problems comes printing; in case, she's using hp color laserjet 5550 - we've tried pcl5, pcl6 , ps drivers (i set ps options "optimize portability", if matters)

 

are there web sites discuss optimization of adobe products?
