Selecting the anchor point, not the curve handles

i've upgraded indesign cs4, , i'm having problem didn't have cs2.

 

i draw comics, , have library of word balloons place frame , adjust fit , point right spot, etc. these shaps have curve points near anchor points, , text wrap points overlapping edges.

 

in cs2, when went grab anchor point, if there curve handle or text wrap anchor point near, cs2 let me grab anchor point. in cs4, if near each other, can't grab anchor point, instead grab curve handle or text wrap point, or something. anchor point seems "below" others, whereas in cs2 "above" them. can grab anchor point if zoom in close can see different points, can't see need move points, since need see whole panel @ time.

 

i looked everywhere in preferences, can't find allow me prioritize kinds of points direct selection tool grab, or ways disable of types of points can touch. did overlook something? there way tell indesign i'd rather grab anchor point text wrap point or curve handle? much, can add insight here.

i've figured out easy workaround text wrap points, these curve handles still plaguing me.

 

if adds subject -- shapes i'm using created in quark xpress , put library converted indesign library. said, these objects worked fine in indesign cs2, in cs3 not much. i'm trying avoid rebuilding of these shapes in indesign, might take care of me, library hundred such shapes.
